  2. Why did Jesus ask Peter three times if Peter loved Him (John 21:15-17)? Why was Peter grieved (John 21:17)? What does this conversation teach us about the Lord's restoration of a failure?

  3. What was Jesus telling Peter to do when He said “Feed my lambs / Tend my sheep” (John 21:15-17)? What is this commanding us to do, ie, how do we fulfill that?

  4. Why did Peter ask about John (John 21:21)? Why do we tend to compare our walk with Christ with someone else's? Why is this foolish?

Two Ways We are Sent Like Jesus:

  1. You are sent in the Power of the Sirit . (John 20:22)

    Genesis 2:7 - then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature

    Acts 1:8 - But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

  2. You are sent to Deal with Sin . (John 20:23)

    Matthew 16:19 - I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

    Romans 10:9 - because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

  1. Student: Look at God's Word to Understand the resurrection. (John 20:8-10)

    Psalm 16:10 - For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.

    Romans 5:17 - For if, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

    1 Corinthians 15:22 - For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.

When Jesus Says "It is Finished" (John 19:28-30):

  1. He means Everything is finished. (John 19:28-29)

    Psalm 69:21 - ...for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.

    Exodus 12:22 - Take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin.

  2. He means it is Totally finished. (John 19:30)

Hebrews 10:4 - For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
