That’s where we are going on the home stretch of Hebrews. We’ve spent many months digging deep in the theology of Jesus fulfilling the Old Covenant. But if we walk away thinking, “Well, that’s interesting…”, but we don’t do anything about it, our months have been wasted.
Practical application resulting from deep theology. It’s time to act on what we know.

What comes after this life? Do we just cease to exist? Do we become one with the earth or some cosmic force? Are we reincarnated as another person and continually travel the merry-go-round of life on an endless loop? Is there an afterlife where we go to one of two places: heaven or hell?
Heaven is appealing for obvious reasons but for many, hell just seems too horrible to be true. The concept of hell is offensive to most people so they do whatever they can to reject its existence and make it seem ridiculous. But what does the Bible have to say about the existence and nature of hell?

Discipline is painful, not pleasant. You can probably ask any of the kids in our Children’s Ministry, and you’ll get a witness.
God is a Father, and He disciplines HIs kids, too. And while we don’t enjoy it, we will enjoy the results.
Let’s rethink the whole “getting disciplined” thing this Sunday.
Who wants to go for a run? Not me. I hate running.
But spiritually - we are in a race. And we are to run as if we want to win.
Why is it so hard? Well, that takes us back to my previous comment - I hate running because it is so hard. Where do we get the motivation to run (the spiritual race) like we mean it?

Would you describe yourself as a courageous person? Many of us would say no because we constantly struggle with doubt, anxiety, and worrying about the future. But it’s important to understand that courage isn’t the absence of fear but the willingness to trust the Lord in the face of any and all fear. At its core, courage is faith in action.

Do you have real faith? You do - if your faith makes your decisions. You should have things in your life you refuse to do because of your faith – and things you are compelled to do because of your faith.
True faith just simply makes my choices. Whether the world agrees or not, whether the choices are easy or not, whether the choices make sense or not.
Anyone can start a race strong. But it’s how you finish the race that matters.
This is true of your walk with God, too. True faith perseveres - all the way to the end of your life. We have some great examples to follow. Let’s prepare ourselves for faith to the finish line!
Hebrews 11 not only defines faith, but shows us how it plays out in the life of a believer. And there is no one better from the Old Testament to examine than Abraham, the father of Israel.

We got a definition of faith last Sunday, but what does it look like? Hebrews 11 features a parade of examples of “what life looks like when I believe God”.

What is faith? We throw the word around a lot around here. What does it mean? Wishful thinking? Believing something unbelievable? Check your brains at the door and just embrace whatever you want to believe?

Shrinking back is lame. Coming across adversity and just crumbling, that’s just not who we are. True faith results in endurance. Not having faith not only results in cowardice, but it leads to far worse consequences. Who is ready to step up?

Have you ever struggled with confidence issues? If you are a human and you are breathing, I’m assuming that the answer is most certainly yes. Maybe you didn’t have confidence that you could handle a massive assignment at work. Maybe you didn’t have confidence that you could take on a specific household project. Maybe you don’t have confidence that you can be who God has called you to be and do what He has called you to do.
If you struggle with confidence issues in regard to your walk with the Lord, do not miss this Sunday! We will study Hebrews 10:19-25 and discover that we shouldn’t have confidence in ourselves and our own limited abilities but in Jesus Christ and His infinite ability!
God’s unique presence on earth was found in a particular structure in Old Testament times: The Tabernacle. It was the portable version of what would later be the Temple. Far from being furnished for decorative purposes, every piece had a special meaning. A meaning that speaks to God’s work in Christ for our salvation.

God is willing to forget your sin. Somehow we think that, even as Christians, we will “have to answer for our sins”. Yet Hebrews tells us that God is willing to forget the sins of those who receive His Son.

We often joke that the biggest lie told in churches is "I am praying for you." So we tell people to pray right now.
Honestly, though, it is so encouraging to me when I hear someone say "I am praying for you, Pastor Jeff." I believe that they are! How much more encouraged should I be when God's Word tells me that Jesus Himself is praying for me... and for all of those who have received Him as their Savior and Lord (or Priest and King!)?

Anger is an intense emotion that we all experience every single day. We get angry with our co-workers, our family, our friends, our political leaders, and especially those who cut us off in traffic! Anger can be a good and healthy thing but it can also be extremely destructive as well. If we’re honest, we’d admit that we often allow our anger to control us and blind us to what’s true.
